HISTORY OF THE OHIO THEATRE

The Ohio Theatre is a historic theater in downtown Lima, Ohio. The theater was built in 1927 as a movie palace.  It was built for the Schine Corporation.  In addition to films, the Ohio Theatre has featured  stage performances by a wide range of entertainers. Individuals as well known as Bob Hope have performed here.

In 1982, the Ohio Theatre was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

From the early 1970's the building functioned as a nightclub under a variety of names. In 2013 the building became a venue for weddings, concerts and other special events.

In 2020 the Ohio Theatre was purchased by "Play With Your Food LLC" and is currently home to it's resident theatre company The Avante Garage Theatre. The building continues to host concerts, plays, musicals, holiday celebrations, and can be booked for special events.
